Engineering promotes the development of the new SOA Universal MIddleware platform of Eclipse.

Rome, 16th February 2010 – Engineering has joined the Eclipse Foundation as a Solution Member. After having contributed to developing the Eclipse STP IM, Engineering has decided to increase its participation in one of the most famous international open source communities. In particular, Engineering has joined the Eclipse SOA Initiative and it is proposing two new service-oriented architecture projects as the project leader.

The Eclipse SOA Initiative is an industrial initiative aiming to define, implement and promote a common Eclipse SOA platform, including design-time, runtime and governance components. By adopting this platform, which guarantees the interoperability among the different SOA components developed by the involved enterprises, the Eclipse SOA Initiative acts as the forum for the collaboration among various industry players at the international level. It aims to define and deliver a common SOA platform, which meets the needs of industries and organizations which intend to adopt it, fulfilling both already known and identified un-met requirements.

"Engineering's Eclipse Foundation membership, in addition to its consolidated participation in the OW2 Consortium, through the development of the open source projects of the SpagoWorld Initiative, confirms the primary role that Engineering is playing in the various international open source communities" states Gabriele Ruffatti, Architectures & Consulting Director, Research & Innovation Division of the Italian Group. "Our membership mainly consists in our contribution to developing the new SOA middleware of Eclipse, which aims to become the reference industrial implementation for the development of interoperability solutions and of service-oriented architectures, which are becoming more and more popular in the Italian and international IT market".

"We would like to welcome Engineering as a member of the Eclipse Foundation" said Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation. "Companies like Engineering are critical to the successful adoption of Eclipse technology. The knowledge and expertise provided by Engineering will definitely help grow the Eclipse ecosystem."
