Engineering Group based in Rome (Italy) presents SpagoBI new release and its own open source business model at OSBC 2009

Rome (Italy) and San Francisco (USA), March 24th, 2009 – Engineering Group, Italy's leading IT services company and an active player in the international open source communities, takes part - for the third year in a row - in the Open Source Business Conference (OSBC), opening today in San Francisco and closing tomorrow.

Gabriele Ruffatti, Architectures & Consulting Director represents Engineering Group in the session Open Sourcing the Enterprise: Product and Services with a speech within the panel titled Moving Open Source Up the Stack.

The OSBC in San Francisco represents the opportunity to share with the USA market the new release of SpagoBI 2.0, the free business intelligence platform developed by Engineering. The demo will be explained by Andrea Gioia, SpagoBI consultant. The solution is well-known and used by open source developers worldwide and it has been already integrated in several IT projects developed across all vertical markets: Finance, Public Authorities, Telco, Industry and Healthcare services.

The 2009 version of SpagoBI 2.0 offers a range of new functions to support day-to-day and strategic business, shaped by the high-end nature of its users, both at the decision-making and operational level. The new interface reflects the double standard of easy use and simple design. It is geared towards quick and intuitive use of the various analytical documents managed by the platform, for which the architecture has also been renewed.

The new version is divided into 5 modules and includes the already well-known platform in SpagoBI Server, evolving it significantly and placing it alongside four new components: SpagoBI Studio, a unique and integrated development environment; SpagoBI Meta, the new environment focused on metadata; SpagoBI SDK, the new layer of integration for using SpagoBI in external applications and SpagoBI Applications, to hold all the analytical vertical models developed with SpagoBI.

"Creativity, quality and efficiency of made in Italy products, well-known in the world, are not only a prerogative of fashion, gourmet foods, design and luxury cars but today they embrace the software industry" said Gabriele Ruffatti. "The participation of Engineering Group at the conference in San Francisco is a proof of this and it allows us to share our expertise and the vision of our company, today among the most reliable European open source solution providers".

Engineering's Business Intelligence & Open Source Competence Center yearly invests in the implementation of new open source solutions about 5% of the parent company's total revenues. Crucial to the development of these solutions is the attention to market and clients'needs, asking today for software robustness, reliability, efficiency and flexibility with respect to their business activities and budgets.

Engineering is also one of the exhibitors, with demos on all solutions included in the SpagoWorld Initiative: besides SpagoBI 2.0, other products will be shown, such as Spagic, the integration platform for software development in SOA/BPM environments; Spago4Q, a specialization of SpagoBI for software quality and process governance and Spago, the Java Enterprise framework.
