Date: February 04, 2008

On 31st January 2008, a new Initiative in the Business Intelligence domain has been launched at the OW2 Conference, held at the Solutions Linux Paris trade show. The scope of the Initiative is the development of open source technologies and the creation of an OS BI industrial level ecosystem.

The Initiative presented by OW2 and Engineering Ingegneria Informatica, strategic member co-founder of the Consortium and leader of the Initiative, is a market-driven collaborative activity undertaken to promote adoption of the Consortium's technologies by mainstream market players; it facilitates technology integration between OW2 projects and helps build business synergies between consortium members and non-members, such as companies, public administration, academia and research institutes.

Currently the main components of the Initiative are: SpagoBI, the Business Intelligence free platform provided by Engineering Ingegneria Informatica and Talend Open Studio, the ETL tool, provided by Talend, leader in open source data integration tools and OW2 member.

In addition to Engineering Ingegneria Informatica and Talend, the first participants in the Initiative are Altic, a French open source integrator, Artemis Information Management, a Luxembourgian established leader in statistical and economic analysis and Italian laboratories active in the datawarehouse and BI domains from the Universities of Bologna, Milan and Trento.
