Based on some dedicated studies conducted by the students of the Polytechnic of Coimbra on various open source Business Intelligence solutions, the paper presents how OS BI meets the users’ needs for innovation, interaction, evolution, time and money saving. Moreover, the paper gives a comparative overview on the features and strength points provided by the most important solutions available on the market, including SpagoBI suite. In details, SpagoBI is described as one of the most complete BI packages in this domain, which is released as only one stable community version, under the LGPL license.
