Organization of GeoBI initiative, the open community making open source Location Intelligence adoption pervasive
The following is just a summary of the contents of the GeoBI Initiative Charter, which contains all the details.The organization of the initiative includes:
- the Leadership
- the Technical Committee
- the Founding Members
- the Membership
Leadership
The initiative leaders are nominated by the companies that have founded the initiative itself. They have a coordination role in the initiative.The current leaders are:

Technical Committee
Technical Committee of the initiative is made up of maximum 5 participants, depending on the number of the initiative members and their candidates, including the initiative leaders.The current number of the members of the Technical Committee must be an odd number and must represent the initiative members as much as possible.
The term of the Technical Committee is two years, after which a new Technical Committee will be elected by members, during a specific meeting call by the initiative leaders.
During the election meeting each member has one vote; the Technical Committee must be elected by majority of those present.
The Technical Committee holds regular meeting twice a year. Furthermore, it meets by request of two of its members, when necessary or appropriate.
The duties of the Technical Committee are:
- to collect working/business opportunities provided by members and to harmonize them in a shared road-map
- to update correspondingly the list of working/research topics
- to periodically verify that the initiative activities are aligned with the established technological objectives
- to verify the technical quality of the results and the correctness of the communications.

Founding members
The founding members of the initiative and their knowledge/contribution are:- Engineering Group
- knowledge: Business Intelligence (BI)
- expertise on: SpagoBI project.
- Inova
- knowledge: Geographical Information System (GIS)
- expertise on: GeoReport project.
Founding members have the right to use the "GeoBI Initiative Founding Member" status and to designate a company representative as one of the two initiative leaders. Founding members grant:
- trust and transparency of the initiative management, guidance, policies, internal and external relationships, members' code of conduct within the initiative
- alignment of the activities with its Objectives and Principles, as set forth in chapter 3
- the review of the governance policies, when necessary.
Membership
Membership is open to everyone (company, organization, individuals) who shares the initiative vision and agrees on the initiative Manifesto.New members must:
- agree on all the contents of this charter
- act according to the rules pointed out in the GeoBI initiative charter
- commit themselves to work on one or more specific working topics of the initiative, summarizing their promise in an "intent declaration" to be published on the website.
Participation of new members is subject to the approval of the current GeoBI initiative members.
Name of members (contact name and affiliation) as well as their "intent declaration" are published on the initiative website.
